SUMMARY:Energy Bill Check-Up Webinar
DESCRIPTION:“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin\nWhether you’re looking to better understand your own bill or to help others in your community navigate their energy costs\, this webinar will provide useful information and practical resources. While helpful for all residents\, this presentation is designed for energy coaches and community leaders who desire a better grasp of the details of utility billing and of the special programs––whether seasonal\, income-related\, or equipment-based––that can help ratepayers get savvy with their bills. \nThe speaker is Sierra Moll\, Energy Consumer Liaison for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. Her job is to connect residents\, community organizations\, and local leaders with state resources and advocacy on utility and energy issues. Here are some of the questions she will address. \n\nThe difference between supply and delivery charges\nDifferent supply options (basic\, municipal aggregation\, competitive supply)\nWhen and why rates change\, plus why rate changes may not affect everyone at the same time\nHow infrastructure maintenance and renewable projects may affect utility bills\n\nThis program is sponsored by the Metrowest PlugIN effort of MassEnergize.org\, in which EnergizeActon.org and other regional community groups participate. \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/IpwtfBoMTTGH5gGoP383Eg \nWed.\, August 19th\n🕖 7:00–8:00 PM \n💻 Online via Zoom\n🎤 Speaker: Sierra Moll\, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office \n

SUMMARY:Clean Energy Mini Fair!
DESCRIPTION:It’s ELECTRIC!  EVs\, Smart Thermostats\, Home Insulation\, and MORE!\nJoin us for a re-imagining of our postponed EV Petting Zoo! Yes\, we will still have electric vehicles\, but the Sustainability Office will also bring in the Eversource Energy Efficiency Experience. Find out about all the actions you can take to make your home more energy efficient\, from affordable low maintenance EVs (no more gas pumps!) and money-saving home insulation to “connected solutions” such as smart thermostats that help keep down costs during severe heat. Plus\, learn about the appliances that create healthier indoor and outdoor environments\, such as induction stoves and electric leaf blowers.  Information will be available on all the Massachusetts and Mass Save rebates for the new technology. Make your driving a zero emissions\, high performance\, and more affordable experience! Address the energy leaks in your living space\, introduce more efficient heating and cooling\, and reduce emissions. \nAre you an EV driver? Please register or just drop by to share your experience! Are you thinking about an EV? Please come and chat with us. EV drivers LOVE to share the INs and OUTs of their cars. We hope to have a good variety of vehicles—passenger models from Ford\, Toyota\, Chevrolet\, Subaru\, Kia\, Hyundai\, and more\, plus electric vehicles purchased by the Town of Acton. \nSnacks and beverages will be provided. \nRegister HERE. \nResources will also be available addressing the following topics. \nHome Heating\, Cooling\, and Energy Resources \n\nActon’s FREE Clean Energy Coach Program\nServices offered through Acton’s Community First Partnership with Mass Save\nIncentives Spreadsheet for Massachusetts (including Mor-EV\, Mass Save\, EV Charging equipment rebates and managed charging savings\, and solar savings)\nIntroduction to Heat Pumps\nOptions for Solar Energy\n\nElectric Vehicle Resources \n\n2026 EV pricing\nMassachusetts incentives for new and used EVs\nIncreasing range of electric vehicles\nBattery updates\nCost and incentives for home charging\nMaintenance savings\nVehicle handling\nLook for special tips about the growing used EV market and other helpful organizations such as the Drive Green program.\n\nOne Michigan car aficionado and EV driver\, Jamie Racklyeft\, wrote earlier this year\, “I’m on my fourth EV now and I’m not going back: A 2025 international survey of 27\,000+ EV drivers found 93% would choose another battery-electric EV\, while only 1% would return to gas or diesel. . . So yes\, 2026 may feel quieter than the hype years. But quieter isn’t weaker. It’s steadier. And steadiness is how lasting change actually takes hold.” \nThank you so much for your interest and expertise! \nEnergizeActon.org is a joint effort of the Acton Climate Coalition and the Town of Acton Sustainability Office. SUMMARY:Biosphere Book Club Sept. '26: WILD DARK SHORE
DESCRIPTION:Biosphere Book Club – Wild Dark Shore\nreflecting on climate vis-à-vis the health of human and environmental communities\n  \n “Wild Dark Shore is a thrilling page-turner\, but all the action and suspense disguise something deeper: a beautiful meditation on love\, loss and resilience in the face of climate change.”\n―NPR \n“[A] terrific thriller…McConaghy keeps readers guessing…McConaghy writes about both nature and human frailty with eloquent generosity. Readers won’t want to leave behind the imagined world of pain and beauty that McConaghy has conjured.”\n―Kirkus (starred review) \nRegister HERE. \n For the September session\, we are choosing a work of fiction\, Wild Dark Shore\, by Charlotte McConaghy. McConaghy is an Australian writer who has written two other acclaimed novels\, Migrations (where Arctic Tern migration is a theme) and Once There Were Wolves (a mystery set in Scotland where a biologist reintroduces wolves in a rewilding commitment). Her latest work is set on an island in the Antarctic Sea\, where a family of caretakers watches over a seed bank after all the scientists are recalled due to storm damage to their research base. \nInitially\, there was a bit of reluctance to choose this title\, because grief is such a big element in the story. In our contemporary world\, shouldn’t a book club give us a break from all the dismay?! However\, besides winning many awards\, this book has been highly recommended by family and friends. Perhaps learning to lament is also tied to celebrating the amazing wonder of both human life and the natural world. So together we will take on the tough elements of grief and danger while uncovering the beauty and the caring. \nFor the September session\, facilitator Karen again invites you to an in-person meal version of the Biosphere Book Club. We might start with a hot cider outside\, but most of the meeting will be inside over a simple meal. The address will be sent when you register. As always\, it’s great when you can read the book. (We are requesting that the Acton Memorial Library hold copies for us.) But we understand that life is crazy so\, if you do not have the chance to tackle the text\, please join us anyhow. A guide with key quotes will be sent out the weekend before we meet. \n  \nRegister HERE. \nWild Dark Shore is a New York Times best-selling book that has been nominated for multiple awards\, including the following. \n\nWinner of the Indie Book Awards: Book Of The Year 2026\nFiction Category Winner\, Indie Book Awards 2026\nWinner\, Book Of The Month ‘Lolly’ Award for Book Of The Year 2025\nShortlisted for The Edgar Award 2026\nShortlisted for the Aspen Words Literary Prize 2026\nShortlisted for the Audie Awards: Audiobook Of The Year 2026\n\nThe Biosphere Book Club is an endeavor of EnergizeActon.org. EnergizeActon.org is a joint effort of the Acton Climate Coalition and the Town of Acton Sustainability Office. Interested in lending a skill? Contact us at Info@energizeacton.org. We meet the 1st Wednesday of each month.
