SUMMARY:RECORDING: Garden As If the Earth Matters
DESCRIPTION:GARDEN AS IF THE EARTH MATTERS: Planting for Biodiversity and Climate Resilience \n  \nWatch the recording HERE. \n  \nWatch Anna Fialkoff\, from the Wild Seed Project in Portland\, Maine\, as she explores how gardening with native plants helps foster biodiversity and creates more resilient landscapes. Formerly of the Native Plant Trust in Framingham\, MA\, Anna highlights the wonderful ecological connections that happen in our own backyards and public spaces when we focus on native plants. Without sacrificing beauty\, we can create extraordinary\, vibrant habitats for the insects and birds who are essential to a healthy ecosystem. Anna shares many concrete suggestions for planting and for landscape care\, all designed to enrich our soils and to help mitigate the stresses of climate change. This talk was presented on October 13\, 2022. \n  \nThe contact person for this action would love to form an Acton\, MA area “Native Plant Team” on EnergizeActon.org\, where gardeners could share ideas for planting and for sharing our enthusiasm with others. If this talk inspires you to join such a team\, please go to the bar at the bottom of this page and click\, “Contact Community Admin.” Your message will get through to the correct person. \n  \nThis event was co-sponsored by EnergizeActon.org\, the Acton Garden Club\, and the Acton Conservation Trust. Many thanks to the Acton Garden Club for co-hosting this event as part of their special Shirley Towle Lecture Series. \n  \n

SUMMARY:A Celebration of Plant-Based Food! Cookbook Club and Potluck Picnic
DESCRIPTION:Eating more plant-based food is an immediate and DELICIOUS way to put less CO2 into the atmosphere. \n  \nPlease join us at this fun potluck picnic to celebrate plant-based meals. We are not saying that people should give up all meat; rather\, we are saying that vegetable dishes are downright yummy (and also good for the environment!). In that spirit\, we are offering two cookbook options to inspire your kitchen time. At the reference desk in the Acton Memorial Library\, choose a recipe from British chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittinstall’s book\, River Cottage VEG. Or\, at Kitchen Outfitters\, think about purchasing the wonderful local farm’s effort\, The Gaining Ground Table\, and trying one of their plant-based recipes. Yes\, the latter does have meat recipes\, but the salad and vegetable dishes are mouth-watering! Best of all\, if you already have inspiring vegetarian or vegan recipes in your home repertoire\, please bring one of your favorites. Besides your food contribution\, please bring two copies of the recipe to the NARA Park Pavilion.  We will also have stations at the picnic with local farm info\, ideas for minimizing food waste\, an intro to composting\, and a tempeh cooking demo. \n  \nIf you are in the area on August 9th\, please join us for this special celebration! \n  \nSponsored by EnergizeActon.org and the Acton Memorial Library.
